Energy Data Working Group

The Energy Data Working Group at Opendata.ch exists in order to open up energy data, make it used and useful. Currently the best way to get involved is through membership in the association, joining our online channel (Slack), and taking part in our upcoming workshops and hackathons.

The next Energy Data Hackdays 2023 will take place on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 September 2023 in Brugg, Switzerland.

All the information can be found in German, French and English at energydatahackdays.ch

More about us

Warum

The Reason Why

As digitalization progresses, business-relevant data and its value-added processing are increasingly at the center of entrepreneurial activities. Technical innovations, an unprecedented amount of data and new ways of linking and analyzing data provide the basis for a broad spectrum of possible business field developments – from complementary approaches to disruptive business models in various industries.

Information processing is also definitely becoming a strategic success factor in the energy sector. In order to ensure that data is handled in an orderly, legally compliant and industry-wide uniform manner, it is necessary to develop and establish an appropriate data policy for the interaction of market participants. This should describe the principles for important questions regarding data use, data protection, data security and data governance. A major challenge for the industry.

Following the Energy Data Hackdays 2019, almost 30 participants expressed their willingness to participate in an Energy Data Working Group.

Goals

The working group advocates better use of energy data in Switzerland. Objectively, independently, interdisciplinarily and broadly supported, data-based innovations are to support and promote the necessary contribution to energy system transformation and the establishment of a sustainable energy system.

To this end, the working group develops positions on current issues in connection with the use of energy data in Switzerland, organises events to promote innovation with energy data (e.g. Hackdays), promotes professional exchange and knowledge transfer between actors in the Swiss energy sector with regard to the use of data and initiates projects that enable better use of energy data.

Who shall be in and why ?

Members of the community are/can be:

  • Interested participants of the Energy Data Hackdays
  • Research, business, private persons, service providers, associations
  • Nonspecialists/persons from outside the field

Positioning of the community as an independent working group which, due to its broad structure, can give an overall picture and an objective position on data-related energy policy issues and statements.

The working group should be able to be asked questions about energy data (use, structure, contents,…) and should have the opportunity to pursue promising ideas and approaches on the basis of the Energy Data Hackdays.
